RSS Steven Ferguson – Hello Health

When did you join Hello Health?

In February 2008.

What was the opportunity/challenge that appealed to you most?

Myca Health is a small, agile company loaded with talented people. The appeal was the opportunity to work with such a team to build a great product. But it goes beyond that. Our challenge is to create a better experience for doctors and patients. Anyone who has been at the whim of the health care system can appreciate how frustrating that experience can be. I saw an opportunity to play a significant role in helping make that change.

What particular leadership skills do you use every day?

I’m very participative. I believe strongly in that.

What past experience best prepared you for your role at Hello Health?

My experience with CareFusion products at Cardinal Health: I managed the medication administration offering. Managing such a complex, deep product that was so critical to patient safety provided me with tremendous experience and awareness about the importance of designing products that are safe and instill confidence in the user.

Finish this sentence: I know I’ll have met my own expectations here when _________?

Our doctors and patients tell me our software provides them the best user experience that they’ve ever had.

Do you have a professional hero?

Steve Jobs comes to mind because he has such a proven track record of creating beautiful devices, software and business models (can a biz model be beautiful? I think so).

A Tuesday afternoon meeting is canceled at the last minute. How do you spend the unexpectedly free time?

Catching up with my team. Hearing the latest developments from colleagues. Nothing is more productive than a 10-minute impromptu sit-down with the team.

Richard Branson once said: “I’m not in the airline business. I’m in the business of entertainment at 32,000 feet.” Can you redefine what Hello Health does in a similar way?

Hello Health is in the business of jailbreaks.

Favorite movie of all time and why.

Goodfellas. I’ve always been fascinated by biographical stories about people that live completely outside of the rules of society. Also, it demonstrates that hard work, drive and being surrounded by the right people can make you successful (kind of).

Favorite Seinfeld or Simpsons episode.
